UK: PS3 lags behind Xbox 360 in spite of GTA IV
Grand Theft Auto IV is an immensely popular title, but it still wasn’t enough to get the PS3 up to speed with the Xbox 360.

The launch of Grand Theft Auto IV created a boost in hardware sales all right, just not as much for the PlayStation 3 as it was for the Xbox 360.
This according to a report at Eurogamer, where it was revealed that a new report from Chart-Track found sales of the Xbox 360 are 18% ahead of the PS3 in the UK since the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV.
Adding insult to injury was the fact that official GTA IV sales figures for the first four weeks revealed the Xbox 360 is the format of choice for UK gamers. Fully 57% of the total sales of the game went to the Xbox 360, compared to 43% for the PS3.
The bad news came as Sony chairman Howard Stringer told attendees at the D6 Technology and Media Conference that the PS3 was actually on “life support” early on its lifetime, and that its profitability curve was “mildly catastrophic.”
That said, Stringer promised the PS3 was now in good shape following a few price cuts, and game titles were finally generating profits.
