Sony’s Jack Tretton had a big, wet kiss for Grand Theft Auto IV this week, as the title helped pump up its PlayStation business.

Thank you, Grand Theft Auto IV!Thank you, Grand Theft Auto IV!

Jack Tretton was all smiles on Thursday following the release of another round of NPD monthly sales data, as his bread and butter console saw software sales grow 410% in the US in April.

Leading the pack was the duo of Grand Theft Auto IV and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, which combined for a software sales surge of over two million units.

“Clearly, the tremendous legacy of Grand Theft Auto on PlayStation, combined with the blockbuster launch of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue packed a one-two punch with consumers at retail this month,” said Tretton, who is the president of Sony Computer Entertainment America.

On the hardware side, the PS3 landed in third behind the Xbox 360 and the so far untouchable Wii in April, but Tretton didn’t seem to mind. Not with Metal Gear Solid 4 just around the corner.
